The new 2010 5 Series from the BMW is expected to arrive into the market as a model vehicle for the year 2010. The 5 Series cars are luxury executive saloons. The latest generation models are powered by the 4.4 liter twin turbo charged V-8 engine that can produce higher power when compared with the other models of its class.

The diesel engine is under production and will be lined up later, which operates at high pressure for improved performance. The 2010 model will come mated with either the 6-speed manual or with the 6-speed Steptronic semi auto gear box. According to the sources of BMW, it is expected that the 8-speed transmission from ZF will also be offered by the vehicle.
The light weight materials like aluminum and carbon fiber will be used for the production of vehicle, which will improve the performance level when compared with the automobiles that are being produced with the other materials.

The next generation 5 series cars will use traditional monocoque steel for the rear and passenger compartment section and aluminum space frame for the front section. This will ensure the distribution of front to rear weight and improved handling. Up rear will be an independent suspension with multi link layout and up front will be with MacPherson struts. The high performance models of the 2010 5 Series will include body panels made up of carbon fiber to reduce more weight.
The front fascia of all 5 series models will likely feature an upright grille so as to comply with stronger pedestrian protection laws, while the headlights of the car would not be stretched as in case of the present 5 series models.

According to the chassis engineers of BMW, the new model is being built using new chassis. BMW will also be modifying its iDrive system, for making life easier for the driver, with the addition of another two programmable buttons.
The next generation 5 Series models will come powered by V10 engine that can produce more than 507 hp of power, mated with a new dual clutch gearbox. The standard model will be fitted with an eight-speed automatic transmission as seen in the Lexus models and will be offered in four wheel drive.

The other engines that will be offered in the 2010 5 Series models will include ODHC I61, turbo charged DOHC I62, DOHC V83 and DOHC V104. The DOHC V104 engine will capable of producing power up to 500 hp at 7750 rotations per minute and torque of 384 lb ft at 6100 rotations per minute.
With the powerful engine equipped in the next generation luxury models, they will be able to achieve fuel economy of 18 miles per gallon in the city premises, and up to 28 miles per gallon on the highway roads. The fuel tank capacity of the 2010 5 Series models will be 18.5 US gallons. Their curb weight will be 3505 lbs and the length, height and width of these vehicles will be 191.1 inches, 57.8 inches, and 61.3 inches respectively.
