The new 2010 S4 comes with the super charged V6 engine that is capable of exceeding the customers’ expectations in terms of mileage and in overall performance. The S4 from the Audi comes with the new engine, the 3.0 liter V6 engine that produces power of up to 340 horse power. This model in the present generation is equipped with 4.2 liter V8 engine and produces the same amount of power.
Audi is moving from V8 to V6 engine because of fuel economy issues. This model is aimed to deliver high overall performance, not just in terms of power, but also mileage and towing capacity. The fuel economy given by the 2010 S4 is expected to be 23.3 miles per gallon with the new V6 engine, while currently it is only 19.4 miles per gallon with the V8 engine used in the S5 model.

The new V6 engine model improves the economy of the fuel by 20 percent when compared with the S5’s V8 engine. The engine model is also expected to produce 50 horse powers more over the previous model.
The new S4 model comes is ten percent lighter in weight when compared with the previous generation s4 model. Both the S4 and the A4 models use the sheet metal for its body development. The body of the new 2010 Audi S4 is developed by the Quattro GmbH. The new S4 will be the first model to come with the longitudinal engine layout model, which will also be offered with a dual clutch transmission in the United States.

The S-tronic drive along with the 7-speed sequential manual transmission also improves the efficiency and performance.

According to the reports, Audi moving from V8 to V6 is considered as a wrong step but the sources from the Audi says that they are stepping two steps forward, by using the new V6 engine. The 6-speed manual transmission is provided as standard on all the S4 models and offers the 7-speed automated manual transmission as an optional engine.

The S4 with the 6-speed manual transmission will be able to accelerate from 0 to 62 miles per hour in a time span of just 5.1 seconds and is quicker by 0.1 second when compared with the V8 engine. As the dual clutch transmission is lacked by the launch control in it, it accelerates from 0 to 62 miles per hour in a time span 5.3 seconds, 0.2 seconds more.
Only time can tell how good or bad a decision it is to move from V8 to V6, so let us wait and watch the show put up by the 2010 Audi S4, when it hits the roads.
