The new S40 model from the Volvo is a small compact sedan car that is available in the T5 R-design and 2.4i trim levels. It is offered in both the all-wheel drive and the front wheel drives. The T5 R-Design model comes with more power, thanks to its turbo charger, while the 2.4i model is featured with the inline-five engine. The competitors to the new S40 model include Audi S4 and the Saab 9- 3 models.
The 5-speed manual transmission is provided as standard on the 2.4i trim model while the 6-speed manual transmission is mated in the T5 R-Design model and it is offered in the all wheel drive.

The 2010 S40 comes with no substantial changes when compared with its previous model except the tail and the nose modifications.
The noticeable features provided in the exteriors of the vehicle include:
• Optional bi-xenon headlights with articulating head lamps
• Standard integrated turn lights
• Standard 17 inch wheels
• Optional 18 inch aluminum wheels
• Standard heated, power mirrors,
• Optional power glass moon roof
• Standard 17 inch wheels

As far as the interiors of the vehicle are concerned, it comes included with the new upholstery that has the capacity to accommodate up to five passengers. The T5 R-Design model comes equipped with the sport shift knob, leather seating surfaces, sport steering wheel, and aluminum sport pedals.

The aluminum trim is provided as standard in both the T5 and the 2.4i model while a Nordic Light trim is provided as optional. The seats at the rear side can be folded. The cargo volume and the passenger volume of the vehicle are 12.6 cubic feet and 92.5 cubic feet respectively.
The standard features in the interior of the vehicle are eight speaker audio systems with 6-disc in-dash CD player, windows and locks with express up and down, parking brake and steering wheel and leather wrapped gearshift knob. The navigation system and the heated front seats are offered as optional features.
Under the hood the new S40 model comes with 5-cylinder engine as standard where as the turbo charged unit is equipped in the T5 R-Design model. The transmissions vary based on the trim model the T5 R model comes mated with the 5-speed automatic as standard while the T5 AWD model comes with 6-speed manual transmission and also provides 5-speed automatic transmission as an optional.

The 2.4 liter 5-cylinder engine produces 168 horse power of energy and torque of 170 pound feet while the 2.5 liter 5-cylinder engine produces 227 horse power of energy and 236 pound feet of torque. The model is offered in either the all wheel drive or in the front wheel drive. It provides the keyless start feature as an optional on both the trim models.
The safety features provided in the vehicle include front, side curtain and side impact air bags, antilock braking system with electronic brake force distribution, electronic stability and traction control system, security system and rain sensing windshield wipers.
