The model Dodge Caravan hit the roads in the year 1983 as a model vehicle for the first time. It falls under the category of minivans, produced by the Chrysler LLC group. The vehicle’s production began in the year 1984 and is still continuing till date. The vehicle has its assembling plant in Fenton, Missouri, United States and in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. More interestingly, the design of the vehicle relates to the models of Chrysler Country and Town. And now the latest generation of the Dodge Caravan is on-the-cards!


The Caravan model is followed by the Grand Voyager and the Dodge Grand Caravan. The vehicle is produced by the Chrysler and it is marketed world wide. Along with the nameplates of Chrysler Voyager, Chrysler Country and Town, Chrysler minivan stood in the 13th place in terms of sales worldwide. The count of Caravan vehicles sold exceeded the 12 million mark on a worldwide level.

The minivan Caravan from the Chrysler LLC group was launched before the release of Renault Espace, a mini van from the Renault. The group had sold more than 12 million Chrysler vehicles mainly Plymouth and Dodge minivans in more than 80 countries. The company used Doug Henning, Magician to explain the Caravan as a model with cargo space van that would be suitable and fit in a normal garage and low step for small children. The model of Caravan was displayed at the museum of Henry Ford in Detroit. The Chrysler LLC conducted a contest in the year 2004, under the name Stand by Your Van, where the contestants with longest hand won the Caravan model. The contest was conducted at an Auto Show in Chicago.

The first generation vehicle Dodge Grand Caravan was released in the year 1984, which was a LWB model and Dodge continued with the same model till 1990. The body style of the vehicle was a minivan with 3-door provided with long and short wheel bases.

The first generation vehicle of Caravan used the platform of Chrysler S, which was similar to the Dodge Plymouth Reliant and Aries of K- cars. The vehicle was provided with the four base trim levels namely, mainstream, SE, base, and the LE.

The Chrysler LLC group released Dodge Grand Caravan as the second generation model in the year 1991, which was based on LWB model and continued to produce the same model up to 1995. The vehicle falls under the category of 3- door minivan and was produced based on the AS platform of Chrysler. The third generation vehicles from the Chrysler group were released in the year 1996 and continued until 2000. The vehicle was manufactured based on the NS platform of Chrysler.
