The all new 2010 Audi A5 & S5 Cabriolets coming soon!

At the 2009 Geneva Motor Show, Audi unveiled its new A5 and S5 Cabriolets, which are likely to be released in 2010. Once these cabriolets are released, they’ll be made available in three transmissions, three engines and all-wheel/front wheel drives.

The first of the lot is the A5 cabriolet base model, which will come with 2.0L engine. The technical specifications of this base A5 are:

• • Engine – 2.0L
• • Horsepower – 211 hp,
• • Torque – 258 lb-ft.

If the front-drive is chosen, then the price of the vehicle starts from $42,000, which comes with Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) – the automatic one. But, if the all-wheel drive is chosen, it works on 7-speed automatic transmission. It is expected that in the overall sale of A5/S5 cabriolets, the sale of this base A5 may be 55%, which would be more than half of the overall turnover.

The second variant of the A5 cabriolet will come with 3.2L engine. This is operated by 3.2L V-6 engine, which produces a horsepower of 265hp and a torque of 243 lb-ft with 6-speed automatic transmission.

For American market, it will come exclusively with Quattro and 6-speed automatic transmission. The price of this A5 cabriolet may be starting with around $49,000 and it is expected that in the overall sale of A5/S5 cabriolets, the sale of this A5 may be 15%.

The S5 cabriolet will again feature the 3.0L engine. The S5 works with 3.0L supercharged V-6 engine, which produces a horsepower of 333 hp with a torque of 325 lb-ft and has 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission.

The overall technical specs can be summed up as follows:

• Engine: 2.0L, 3.2L, 3.0L
• Horsepower: 211hp, 265hp, 333hp
• Torque: 258 lb-ft, 243 lb-ft, 325 lb-ft
• 6-speed automatic transmission/7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission.

The exterior design of A5 cabriolet has a fascinating open-top. The big engine hood, curved surfaces that are in an elegant fashion, large wheels, sharp lines, different front end and a lot others. This Cab is of 4.63 meters long and 1.83 meters wide but the tail is of only 1.38 meters.

The top of the cab is designed to be a cloth top with a large glass as a rear window which fit in so smoothly into the overall design. The construction revealed it to be a light weight top which further reduced the weight of the cab on the whole which lowered the centre of gravity too. The outer part of the top is obtainable in four colours and the inside is available in three colours. The Audi cabriolet has a very handsome soft top, which opens in 16 seconds and closes in 17 seconds. In comparison, all the BMW series vehicles will take 22 seconds to open and 23 seconds to close.

Just like the earlier models of Audi, even these also have similarly tremendously rigid body. And this leads to a high comfort level in driving, good performance and even in higher safety from crashes. A lot of high technologies are used for the white coloured cab, which include the ultra-high-strength steels ,which have tremendously good tensile strength.
