The Mariner is a sibling of Ford Escape and Mazda Tribute and the market of the Mariner has been better than the other two models. Except the manual transmission in Ford Escape, most of the features are common in the Mariner. The vehicle also differs from the Escape in its interior design, signal repeaters and the monotone cladding. In the year 2006, Mariner Hybrid was released, which was identical to the Ford Escape Hybrid.
Similar to the Ford Escape Hybrid, the vehicle can switch between gasoline engine power and the electric battery automatically or it can use the combination of both the gasoline and the battery to attain the maximum speed and load performance.
The vehicle uses the regenerative braking system. Whenever the vehicle is decelerated or brakes are applied, the electric motor becomes a generator, which results in the conversion of momentum to electricity and is stored in the batteries. By this the 155 hp and the 200 hp Mariner accelerates the same kind of performance. The vehicle gets an average distance of 34 miles per US gallon.
The Presidential Edition Mercury Mariner Hybrid was released on 7th of September, 2006 to the former US president, Bill Clinton.

The Mariner was updated again in the year 2008 with an innovative look, built based on the Ford CD2 platform, which was used in the prior generations of Mariner. The changes in the vehicle include head lights, tail lights, new seats, new doors and wheels and the higher beltline.

The interior region of the vehicle was designed using the high quality materials, but the engine remained the same 3.0 liter Duratec V6 with reduced consumption of fuel by 10 percent. The 2008 Mariner was introduced at South Florida International Auto Show on 6th of October, 2006.
Looking at the awards it has bagged, the Mariner had won the “Green car of the year” award in the year 2006. According to the Consumer digest, Mariner was the best buy vehicle for three years, 2005, 2006 and 2007 respectively.
