The brand model Civic from the Honda group is a power train version of Honda Civic Sedan and is also called as Honda Civic Hybrid. The model was released in the year 2003 for the first time and the company is still continuing its production. The vehicle has its assembling plant in Suzuka, Mie, Japan. The vehicle falls under the class of compact cars with the body style of four door sedan. The layout of the vehicle comes with front wheel drive, which is included with the front engine.


The lastest Honda Civic model is built based on the hybrid technology and it is the first vehicle in fuel efficient sedan in its line up. The initial Civic models were built based on the seventh generation model of Civic, while the second generation model of Civic Hybrid will be based on the eighth generation vehicle with varying style differences between JDM and USDM models.

The first generation vehicle was produced during the period 2003 to 2005. The engine used in the vehicle was SOHC 1.3 liter I4 with 5- speed manual transmission speed. The base of the vehicle was 103.1 inches. The length, width and height of the model were 174.6 inches, 67.5 inches and 56.7 inches respectively. The vehicle had the fuel capacity of 50 litres.

The technical features provided in the vehicle include:

• 1.3 L over head cam with i- DSI internal combustion engine
• Permanent magnet assist motor
• Nickel metal hybrid batteries with 120 Volts
• SULEV certification by CARB or California Air Resources Board
• Electric Power Steering
• Low rolling resistance tires

The engine produces 85 horse power of energy at the speed of 5700 rotations per minute, with torque 87 ft lbs at 3300 rotations per minute.

The second generation Honda Civic was released in the year 2006 and is still continuing its production. The engine used in this vehicle is 1.3 liter SOHC I4 gasoline with the wheel base of 2700 mm. The length, width and height of the model are 4488 mm, 1753 mm and 1430 mm respectively. The technical features used in the vehicle include, 1.3 L single cam, and alloy wheels made up of alloy with 15 inches size. The EPA or Environmental Protection Agency in United States estimated that the mileage of the vehicle will be 40 mpg in the city while 45 mpg on highway.

The vehicle Civic Hybrid when compared with the Toyota Prius, Civic has smaller gasoline engine with 1.3 liter 95BHP with four cylinders. The Prius engine is credited with the best fuel mileage efficiency.

As far as the awards bagged by the Civic Hybrid engine are concerned, it had won the award of International Engine of the Year, “1 liter to 1.4 liter” capacity category in the year 2002 and has secured the same award for the next two preceding years till 2004 as well.

Furthermore, this killer machine had also won the Best Fuel Economy award in the years 2003 and 2004. Last but surely not the least, it has also won the Motor trend award for the year 2006 as the car of 2006.
